One
of the best debuts and best albums
of last year was undoubtedly the maiden
work of Clouscape. As you realize
my demands for their new work were
huge, and I wasn’t ready to
get disappointed. Not only did I not
get disappointed but I found that
"Crimson Skies" is one of
the few albums you can listen to so
many times inside the year 2006.
Crimson Skies has
musical differences with their debut.
Firstly they have slowed down the
tempo of their music (something that
is not necessarily negative especially
if the songs are inspired). In their
first album there were some more up-tempo
songs.
Secondly and more
radically (at least for me) is that
they are less Neoclassic influences.
From the first notes of "Crimson
Skies" you can understand the
influences of a great Scandinavian
composer. As much as he denies it
an adept ear can recognise influences
of Conception and Tore Ostby, especially
during the period of "In Your
Multitude", "Parallel Minds"
or even Ark. Once again excellent
guitar work. The riffs, the wondrous
rhythmical passages and the superlative
solos prove that for one more time
Cloudscape’s music is a result
of consistent work and inspiration,
something you understand in every
minute you listen to "Crimson
Skies". What is astonishing once
more is Mike Andersson whose performance
makes you realize that he is one of
the contemporary brilliant singers.
The complexion of his voice becomes
from melodic to harsh, according to
the mood of the music. What a wonderful
combination!!! If you ask me about
songs that outstand believe me it
is unfair. All songs are great synthetically
and there is no part in the CD you
will find it’s just a fling
to fill up the album.
Bottom Line: "‘Crimson
Skies" prove that Cloudscape
did not just have a fling releasing
an outstanding debut. It seems that
we are talking about a great group.
And I am positive that each of their
release will prove it to us.
