Although the name refers to one of the most under-appreciated diamonds of Bay-Area thrash metal (by Forbidden), this Norwegian outfit has nothing common with this genre. Twisted Into Form is another band that show to all of us that the residents of this Scandinavic country can deliver excellent progressive metal. As a band they are not new and they have a long background in bands that have an innovative approach, but we haven't had any previous samples of their work. Twisted Into Form consists of Kaj Gornitzka (ex-Spiral Architect guitarist), drummer David Husvik (Extol), Erik Aadland (ex-Lunaris bassist) and Leif J. Knashaug (ex-Spiral Architect). Why am I making a so special reference to their previous bands? Because all of the members bring something to the sound of the band in order to create a new challenging sound. More to these you will find small pieces of Cynic, Gordian Knot, Death and Arcturus! As you see there are a lot of things that constitute their sound and this is an advantage as this music wealth transforms in a very interesting outcome. The final result is technical progressive metal with jazz/fusion extensions and thrash attitude. However they have a cold and empty approach. If we had to find something that we could use as an accusation is the fact that the album lacks of feelings. Yes there is passion and dedication in this work, but the atmosphere it fails to move the "receiver". I think that the lyrics and the themes the band treats contribute to this, although I haven't the lyrics in front of me. The band worked two years on this project and in pursue for perfection they had plenty of options in their recording sessions. The final mixing was edited by Neil Kernon and the result is completely satisfactory. To conclude, I suggest this release to the fans of complex and intense progressive metal, as this is a brilliant work. Progressive metal has many faces and we missed this one that Twisted Into Form offer us.
